Environment Initiatives

The Julius Nyerere International Airport is committed to achieve excellence in environmental protection by integrating environmental values into all airport activities. Our environmental policy call for conservation of natural resources, sustainable operations and prevention of pollution, mitigation of environmental harm, full compliance with all environmental laws, regulations and other requirements, and notification to the public of airport environmental performance reports.

Managing the impact of our operation on the environment and local communities is a priority for our business. We work closely with our neighbours and stakeholders to maximize the positive benefits the Airport while maintaining the integrity of the environment.

To ensure the Julius Nyerere International Airport Environmental Programme is continually progressing, we have committed, through planning environmental monitoring, mitigation strategies and action plans.

Our Focus

We strive to reduce our significant impacts on the environment and enhance our environmental performance through:

  • Improving local air quality
  • Improving waste management through increasing recycling and minimizing waste
  • Reducing adverse effects of ground noise
  • Increase our energy use efficiency
  • Reduction of greenhouse gases emissions

To meet our environmental target JNIA manages environmental impacts which result from the airport operations that we have direct influence. For tenants and other business partners operations we do provide guidance regarding environmental protection to make their airport activities more sustainable.
